Prerequisites:

Knowledge of basic issues of administration of operating systems (any), readiness to work on the command line during intensive and quick training.

Overview:

The training is intended for people who want to learn the basics of administration of Linuxa family-based Red Hat distributions, in order to work in Dev/Ops and Linux environments or prepare for the system administrator certification exam (RHCSA or similar). The participant becomes acquainted with the basic principles and tools for working in the Linux shell and learns the most important concepts of UNIX systems. Classes are conducted mainly in the form of demonstrations and discussions, with additional time for personal exercises.

Due to the high pace of classes, people preparing for the RHCSA or similar certificate will need additional time to consolidate their knowledge. The training can also be used to consolidate and systematize your Linux knowledge. The training material covers the following sections of the exam requirements: Understand and use essential tools, Create simple shell scripts, Operate running systems. Classes are held on CentOS or compatible distribution.

Enterprise Linux (CentOS, RHEL, Rocky Linux and others) - administration of mass storage (LVM), local users, packages and services.
Enterprise Linux (CentOS, RHEL, Rocky Linux and others) - network administration, security and introduction to containers.

Course Outline:
  • command line access methods (SSH, local access, X11)
  • BASH shell basics (keyboard shortcuts, redirects, environment variables, user switching)
  • types of disk objects (files, directories, links, etc.) managing them from the command line with permissions and file ownership rights
  • programs for working with text (man, grep, vim, nano, head, tail, etc.)
  • compression and archiving tools (tar, gzip, etc.)
  • managing the system boot process (Grub, SystemD)
  • service management in SystemD
  • access to the system log (journalctl, syslog)
  • process management (top, kill, etc.) and the concept of tuning profiles
  • basics of script writing Bash
