Course Outline:

OUTLINE OF SESSION 1: Communicating for Effective Team
Working (1.5 hrs)

 PRE-EVENT DISC PROFILE
Free tool at www.crystalknows.com to assess their motivational style and values, they can
also see each others profiles (if they have the same domain in the email addresses) and can
look at up to 10 profiles in LinkedIn if they download the extension (prompted during the
creation process. Simple.)

This will be a flipchart in the room to serve as a reminder of why we are doing this…

  •  Scene Setting (10 mins)
  •  A fun ice breaker to mix everyone up and assign them to a table.
  •  Why Do People Do That? (40 mins)
  •  Lively interactive session on DISC – splitting the room into the different ‘colours’ and
  • motivators – ask them to discuss what is a priority and why, what do they not want to do,
  • what things can people say to get them to engage, what makes them want to run off in the
  • other direction.
  • Really fun and insightful as people realise opposite temperaments see the engaging and
  • resisting phrases and actions oppositely too! Leave me alone to do it is great for analysts and
  • horrible for influencers! Memorable too and will create connections between personality
  • types which will be useful networking too.
  •  Recommend finding opposite pairs to work with in next session.
  •  How Do We Create Understanding? (30 mins)
  •  Series of games looking at tone of voice (how it doesn’t always land how you imagine!) and
  • getting tasks done together – (back to back one describes a picture I have at the front, the
  • other draws it) – debrief always brings out profound realisations about setting context, not
  • assuming, jargon issues and so many other things.
  •  Wrap Up (10 mins)
  •  Share on table one take away from session that you are committing to. Encourage table to
  • hold you accountable.

OUTLINE OF SESSION 2: Time Management and Personal Effectiveness through Emotional Intelligence – 1.5 hrs

  •  How Do We Agree Priorities? (30 mins)
  •  Time Matrix (urgent vs important) used to create common ground and understanding of
  • those who create false emergencies and those who respond and how to avoid that.
  • Discussion of importance of Quadrant 2 – important but not urgent work – which needs to
  • be done to stop Quadrant 1 urgent & important – to stop happening so much! I will get
  • examples from the questionnaire.
  •  Could be useful to have the organisational map of how everything works to use in examples
  • and to create understanding.
  •  Emotional intelligence and Planning Great Days (30 mins)
  •  Looking at the 4 chemicals that run a ‘good day’ and what happens when we get stressed.
  • Planning ahead for not just chunking days in terms of tasks but also looking after mental
  • health and ensuring you don’t create ‘car crash’ situations from being overwhelmed or burnt
  • out.
  •  Group Action Planning (30 mins)
  • Groups create a charter on their table for effective team working.
