This is a consulting proposal for The Data Lab
Due to the fact that MediaWiki has four times more market share than FosWiki, we suggest choosing the former. Our analysis shows that MediaWiki will meet all the requirements while maintaining an appropriate level of content control and security.
We have been implementing and maintaining MediaWiki for many years. We understand the limitations but also the enormous power of MediaWiki and the ease of expansion. If necessary, we are able to write our own extension to add the missing functionality.
As a training company, we know how to convey knowledge in the right way. We can easily adapt to new situations and requirements. We also enjoy working on interesting initiatives.
As part of the project, we will prepare templates for various types of pages, thanks to which the creation of further similar materials will be quick and the pages will have a consistent look without the need for excessive editing.
The initial configuration of the platform will allow the creation of new or editing of existing pages by anonymous readers with a forced mechanism of acceptance of new content by the administrator or editor with appropriate permissions according to preferences.
Built-in version control mechanisms will allow you to review all revisions with the possibility of removing them on request and viewing them only by those who approve the changes. This ensures that visitors can only view the approved version of the page.
MediaWiki offers the organization of pages and their display in a hierarchical form. This is both possible with the help of categories as well as tags. After agreeing, we will prepare the structure and sample content organized in this way.
If possible, based on the provided graphic materials, we will adjust the visual aspect to obtain an aesthetic but also personalized effect. We are aware of what MediaWiki offers out of the box and we will try to hide unnecessary elements for the recipients of the content.
A full stack developer will work on the project, who knows front-end technologies as well as what is happening on the back-end and what is required for MediaWiki to work properly.
As part of the support, we will provide training for editors in the field of navigating the platform, creating new content based on templates and moderating content created by anonymous users. The training also includes a discussion of the administrator's tasks and help in choosing the right hosting, as well as full implementation. In our opinion, in order to ensure transparency, hosting should be ordered by and registered with the client.
