This short course is for anyone wanting to improve their awareness of digital and online data privacy, we will demonstrate how easily your personal data can be obtained online, and how you can be more aware to help you stay safe.

Key learning points - how you can secure your digital footprint through an increased level of Cyber awareness and an understanding of the threat posed by various threat actors.

Course Outline:

Why would I be targeted?

Gain an understanding of why you would be targeted within your organisation.

Why adversaries want to understand you, your life, and the network around you.

Social Engineering

Develop an understanding of what Social Engineering is and how it can be used to  manipulate people into giving up confidential information.

Phishing

Gain an understanding of what phishing is, the different types that are current in use such as spear phishing, whaling, smishing and qishing.

How to mitigate the risk of being exploited by a phishing attack.

Public Wi-Fi

Develop an understanding of the dangers of using public Wi-Fi and how they can be used in a secure manner.

How Wi-Fi can be monitored and exploited by an adversary and how to counter the threat.

Smart Phone Applications

Understanding the importance of using only approved trusted sources when downloading applications.

Developing a understanding of why it’s important to keep mobile devices and applications updated.

Geolocation

Develop an awareness of some of the more common geolocation services available and how these can be exploited to extract data from imagery for OSINT purposes.

How to ensure you don’t give away too much information using imagery or geolocation services.

Dating Applications

Gain an understanding of how dating applications are utilised by Cyber Criminals and Foreign Intelligence Services seeking to solicit personal or classified information from unsuspecting individuals.

Telemetry (Hire cars etc)

Modern vehicles are just as well connected as our mobile devices and homes – we need to consider what data is being shared with those vehicles when connecting devices to hire cars on holidays etc. This module will provide a high-level overview of the risks emanating from connecting devices to vehicles.

VPNs

Develop an understanding of how VPNs work, the importance of using them when connected to public Wi-Fi hotspots and gain an appreciation of why not all VPNs are equal.

Messaging Applications

Gain a high-level understanding of the plethora of messaging apps that are currently available and the pros and cons of using the most popular ones and gain an appreciation of what data these messaging apps may be providing to third-parties or adversaries.

Digital Footprints

Explaining the digital footprint that is left when using the Internet, the dangers associated and how proper tradecraft can protect against counter surveillance.
