Overview:
Participants will gain a clear understanding of strategic planning and will have the opportunity to start thinking through the impact on their own organisation. Participants will also be provided with the tools needed to spread the strategic planning methodology within their own organisation or board setting.
The training approach to be used, which governs the design and delivery of the training is based on the following principles:
- Actively involving the participants throughout the training
- Enabling participants to share their thoughts and questions
- The training is designed based on the needs and expectations of the participants that are reflected in the pre-training questionnaire

What is Strategic Planning and why do we need to use it?
- Definitions, Megatrends & global change
- The effects of working in an ever-changing environment
- Three Aspects: Manage Self, Manage Process and Manage Execution
Manage Self
- Your Personal End in Mind – your why for doing what you do.
How you form beliefs and then they form your context for change (Be-Do-Get) - Mindsets for Powerful Change: Confidence (Who am I being based on my why), Curiosity (What if and other great questions), Abundance (7 Habits thinking), Gratitude (What’s working still – appreciative inquiry)
Manage Process
- Opportunities and challenges in your own sphere – list we can use to test tools against
- Identifying Potential Causes
- Horizon scanning,
- Looking at Causes & Symptoms – the ‘story’
- 5 Whys, Ishikawa (fishbone diagram), Pyramid Thinking
Manage Execution
- Looking at real examples and how this might fit into the strategic plan
- 4 Disciplines of Execution – creating winnable games with the same wildly important goal.
- Pareto Principle – what does 80:20 rule do for you when executing?
- Advanced Communications / Emotional Intelligence – Connecting back to the End in Mind thinking.
