Course Outline:

1. Project Management Fundamentals

• Basic concepts and terminology: Defining projects, project lifecycle, project stakeholders, project goals and objectives (The Project Management Triangle: Quality, Cost, Schedule)

• Project management methodologies: Introduction to traditional (Waterfall) and agile methodologies

• Project roles and responsibilities: Understanding the roles of project managers, team members, sponsors, and other stakeholders

• Establishing project governance: Setting up right sized governance, how good governance operates alone/in context of parallel governance. Transparent governance to enable decision-making

 

By the end of this module, participants will be able to describe what a project is,

understand the project lifecycle, identify key roles, distinguish between delivery

approaches and recognise the balance between quality, cost, and schedule.

 

2. Project Initiation and Planning

• Project selection and feasibility studies: Evaluating project ideas and determining their viability

• Developing a project charter: Defining project scope, objectives, and high-level requirements

• Creating a project plan: Develop a practical plan that outlines key tasks, timelines, resources, and budgets to guide delivery

• Scheduling, budget tracking and earned value management

• Managing the Project Plan: Avoiding changes and techniques to manage unavoidable change

 

By the end of this module, participants will be able to evaluate project viability, define a

clear scope and objectives, develop a practical delivery plan and establish effective,

transparent governance that supports decision-making.

 

3. Project Execution and Monitoring

• Task management and assignment: Assigning tasks to team members and tracking their progress

• Resource allocation and management: Allocating resources (people, equipment, materials) effectively

• Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Decisions: Creating a RAID log and how to operate it effectively through working groups and governance

• Communication and change management: Establishing clear communication channels and keeping stakeholders informed

• Performance tracking and reporting: Monitoring project progress and reporting on key metrics

 

By the end of this module, participants will be able to manage their working group

and actions, develop and use a RAID log and spot red flags in a project that need

escalation to the established governance

 

4. Project Closure

• Project completion and handover: Formally closing the project and delivering the final product or service.

• Post-project review and lessons learned: Evaluating project performance and identifying areas for improvement

• Archiving project documentation: Storing project records for future reference 

 

By the end of this module, participants will be able to support project handover,

contribute to lessons learned and understand the value of formal closure.
